Manama Regime Extends Detention of Teenagers on ‘Terrorism’ Charges
On Sunday, a court in the tiny Persian Gulf country extended their detention for 30 more days.
The four boys, all under 18 years of age, have been held in temporary detention for sixty days.
Taking children and teenagers into custody has intensified in Bahrain since Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa became prime minister in November 2020.
According o the rights group Amnesty International, children are being routinely detained, ill-treated and tortured in Bahrain.
It says interrogating children is against international laws, including the Children’s Rights International Law.
Recently, Bahraini’s interior minister claimed that the country has passed a new law introducing alternatives to jail as a “national, civilized and humane” move.
However, the February 14 Youth Coalition rejects the claim, saying the new law is aimed at concealing the regime’s crimes against the people of Bahrain.
